I am writing this update on what happens to be the first day of spring. Spring is a time of renewal that symbolizes hope, youth, and growth. It seems so fitting for the work we do and the children we serve. Volunteer child advocates are working every day to heal children's trauma through meaningful relationships and provide hope during a difficult time in their lives. The Foundation is blessed to be able to continue to grow to meet the emerging needs of our children-even as their needs grow more complex and costly. If you keep scrolling through the March/April newsletter, you will read about the impact of a car seat for Amy and how in the first two months of 2019 we have fulfilled 107 requests for abused and neglected children. We couldn't do what we do without your help and we are so thankful that because of YOU, we are able to meet these growing needs. In order to help us keep up with more children's needs requests, we are excited to announce we have added a new team member to assist in that capacity. Amanda Ruiz comes to the Foundation with experience in events and financial management and we hope you will help us welcome her. Amanda can be reached at AmandaR@galf6.org.
Another area of growth we are excited to tell you about is a new resource to assist our volunteer child advocates with earning in-service hours and keeping up with exemplary practices in the area of child welfare and the issues facing the families we serve. Thanks to the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg, a promising practices lending library has been established in both the ICOT and Corporate Way offices. There are books for advocates, books you might want to check out and suggest to a caregiver, and even books for our children. A full list of titles currently available can be found here. Information on library guidelines is posted at each site, but generally books will be able to be kept for 4-6 weeks. We want to hear from you! Did you enjoy a title that helped with an issue on your case? Is there a topic we are missing? Let us know-email email@example.com with feedback and comments so we can continue to add to this resource throughout the year.
