A big thank you to Pinellas Community Foundation for supporting our Write Start, Learn to Earn and Life Skills Development Programs. Whether it is through providing tutoring or educational aids like laptops, backpacks, school supplies or specialty items through our Children’s Needs Request Program or through life skills training classes that we offer through strategic partnerships with other organizations, such as Junior Achievement, St. Pete College, Wells Fargo, etc, our goal is to equip youth with the tools they need.
Funding will also reward hard work and teach the importance of delayed gratification through our Learn to Earn Program. It is commonly recognized that goal setting and delayed gratification are important traits found in successful individuals. Youth in foster care can struggle with delayed gratification because so often promises were made to them by parents or other caregivers that went unfulfilled. In partnership with their GAL volunteer, youth set an individualized 9 week goal based on their unique situation. Youth may choose to work on improving attendance or improving their GPA and they will receive either an experiential reward or another reward that is tailored to their particular motivation.
